How requests should be handled

Requests should be recognised and logged, with proportionate identity checks and secure disclosure. The usual deadline is one month, without undue delay. Any lawful extension or pause must follow current ICO guidance and be explained to the requester.

Children and other people's information

The right belongs to the child. Requests made by a parent or representative require consideration of authority, the child's understanding and best interests. Third-party information and any exemptions need individual review.

Secure, reviewed copies

Any redactions must remove the underlying information, including hidden text and metadata where relevant. Reports must be checked before secure delivery; real subject access reports are never public website downloads.
